Ken's successfully has grown ginger and turmeric in his back yard garden! Hopefully, eating them on a regular basis, will keep us healthy!
On Ken's morning hike in Hawaii Kai he sees for his first time a Red Star Mushroom along the mountain trail.
Air layering a Meyer lemon plant is another way Ken uses his experiences from things he learned from his father who also did gardening.

for everydaytaichi ken, gardening is like tai chi: the more time and energy you devote to it, the more likely you develop and become more proficient!
for everydaytaichi ken, gardening is almost as good as doing tai chi! Ken has grown up with garden fresh veggies having had the experience from his own dad and paternal grandmother. Even in medical school, as a resident in training in Denver, we had zucchini, carrots, pumpkins, tomatoes, Chinese pea pods and lots of other greens. Now ken has come full circle, so to speak! Take special note of how resourceful he is using his coffee and cold drink cups from his usual routine to have "coffee" after doing tai chi, either at McDonald's or Costco.
His practicality goes even further to validate our home renovation as he uses the screens to shade his seedlings. Even son, Stuart's ceramic pots are used in the best way possible!!

Ken's 24K Project with Andrew and Sophia
Aloha Friday turned out to be the end of a week but NOT the usual! everydaytaichi ken was stumped! He couldn't get to his morning hospital meeting, nor could he go to get more supplies to work on his rock wall repair, and he couldn't get to do his tai chi!
His Prius hybrid car battery went out, after 5 years. Here he is putting a brand new one in!
Because it's a keyless car he had to manually open the car trunk to take out the old battery and work on the new one. It's not an easy job, but ken makes it look easy. He must use his tai chi discipline to take his time and move one step at a time to accomplish this out of the ordinary task!
The slideshow below shows you the process of installing the 12 volt battery as well as putting things back in place. There are pictures of ken's first metric socket tool kit he bought in Australia in 1995 when we visited our daughter who took a year off after getting her Bachelor's degree and entering law school. Ken's love of tools, self reliance and detail is indeed a great combination that help him with his extensive projects.

Ken once contemplated a career in horticulture but he was strongly influenced to go into medicine by his long time friend. He and Mike were roommates in medical school.
One of his hobbies that he feels fulfilled is gardening of vegetables, fruit trees, orchids and keeping our yard well manicured. Ken also has an herb garden of which we put to good use almost daily in our cooking and baking.
Here is a short clip of one of his most productive and healthy vegetable garden!

Ken's hobbies consist of mainly repairs, building, and gardening when he's not fishing and / or tako-ing.
He's landscaped our perimeter of the front of our home, as well as terraced in the back for gardening. He has an organic vegetable garden of which there are eggplants, cucumber vines, taro, bitter melon, okra, green beans, spinach, bok choy, watercress, lettuce, soy beans and numerous herbs. He also has fruit trees as well as potted plants including a wide collection of orchids.
Besides the routine upkeep and maintenance of appliances and plumbing fixtures inside the home he
custom frames our art work from our travels as well as built a closet for our EV charging station. It seems as though Ken has a never ending joy of getting involved in numerous projects.
