Our Thanksgiving Special of 2012
Our celebration this year included Clarissa, Frank, Aaron and Ethan from San Mateo, California. Les, Susan, and Andrew also flew in from Wailuku, Maui. Most of all we were blessed with the presence of my mother, the matriarch of our family, who is getting stronger everyday. Our traditional luncheon included roast turkey, stuffing from the Chuns' recipe, and rosemary whole wheat rolls which Tai Tai, Aunty Susan, Justine, Brennan and Caroline helped to knead the dough and form the rolls just right. Our fruit salad, sticky rice, fresh corn off the cob, steamed yams, and cranberries were yummy trimmings to complete our feast. Desserts included homemade baked goods from friends and relatives along with Lucy's pumpkin cheesecake. Ken's prolific garden furnished us with young bok choy, eggplants, and bitter melon which Caroline cooked up in a healthy stir fry. In the evening, we were with more family in Pearl City with their traditional deep fried tako, kalua turkey, jello and pumpkin desserts. Black Friday was a day for some early bird shopping as well as going to the beach before the surfers were out. Other highlights included having shaved ice in Hawaii Kai. This shop was once visited by President Obama. We also hiked up Makapuu Lighthouse where enjoyed the seascape and freshness of the morning sea mist. Nomatter where we went or what we did, we enjoyed ourselves, hanging out, enjoying the company of family.
This is truly a time for us to reflect and appreciate each other and be thankful for all that we experience.
