The above written memories are by our daughter. To it I would like to add that I remember sitting in our Plymoyth mini van, opening the door to lounge on the seats to see the sky and prepare for the exact time for the eclipse. There were 4 of us, Caroline, Stuart, Clarissa and me. As time got closer we could see the sky getting darker and the wind picked up, then roosters started crowing! It was like we were outdoors on Halloween night! We were all hyped and wished that Ken and Les were with us, too! Ken was working and Les was in Washington D.C. on a summer externship with RSI, Research Science Institute. This morning, on the eve of another total eclipse although Hawaii will experience only a partial eclipse, I rummaged through our rosewood desk drawer to find the envelope below. Here are a few of the GEMS that we had tucked away from our once in a life time experience!! We also have the first day cover of U.S. postage stamps celebrating the total eclipse of July 11, 1991 which I will soon find and post ! Stay tuned!!
We had 13 hungry family members who came for an early Saturday dinner. While several plates were consumed and others still being pan fried, our refrig was still full of wonton and filling just in case we ran out! Nice that we worked as a team with me doing all the folding this time, and Caroline and Les frying the pot stickers while I boiled wonton for another option.
ALL You Need to Know About Cloud Hands, a Yang Style Tai Chi Movement by lucy chun, Honolulu, Hawaii8/18/2017 Problem solved! Ken's organic garden produced a ton of tomatoes of 2 different varieties on their own. These tomatoes are from volunteer vines that grew on their own his garden.
Lucy decided to try a tomato soup variation using homemade chicken stock, round onions, garlic, turmeric, celery, green onions, rosemary as flavorful herbs. To the stock I added soy milk, quinoa, steel oats, and rice to thicken. It turned out to be a great experiment! Above picture shows how my Leaf of 5 years with a driving range of 51 miles with only 8 bars of charge left of the 12 bars to start with when car was brand new. After qualifying for an upgraded battery upon full charge car now has 104 miles driving range, GREAT! Here is a reading this morning after I drove the "new" car from Niu Valley to Kahala Mall...I have NO complaints!
There are so few "special" times where we can time it so that our mother is awake and able to see us these days, but today was the day! Here she is wide awake as I make my daily visit to see her. I started my day at 6:30 this morning doing my walk in Hawaii Kai before leading the Luk Tung Kuen Chinese stretching exercise class at the Hawaii Kai Town Center. Then rushed to my Queen's Hawaii Kai appointment and then ran a few errands and dropped by mom's Kuliouou home. She must have known I would be around as usual to bring her fresh laundry and of course to give her a massage! |
