Christmas Island Special: homemade flies for fly fishing by everydaytaichi ken, Honolulu Hawaii11/23/2016 As a elementary school teacher I always wished that I could take my classroom kids to see how cranberries were processed. We had a once in a life time experience in September of 2004 when our son was just finishing his medical residency in Boston. What is more interesting is when I called the cranberry farm to schedule a tour, I was told they no longer give tours! However, a group of business men from Japan, representing Asahi were visiting and that we could join their tour. We were told they were thinking of marketing a red drink, using cranberries as a base. What a great opportunity to be at the bog and see how the cranberries were raked together, fluffed up to sift through the good berries and how the conveyor sorted them into various bins. The whole process was magnified by the sight of the entire bog full of pretty pinkish red berries floating in the sea, so inviting and tempting to see! (click on word: "video") Step by step process for making homemade Greek yogurt by everydaytaichi lucy chun, Honolulu, Hawaii11/12/2016 Every week, I enjoy making my own Greek yogurt. I buy a gallon of fat free milk then microwave it until it reaches 180 degrees. Cool it down until it is 100 degrees. Mix in my starter I saved from the previous batch of yogurt. Begin incubation process. Place it in a crock pot covered with a towel in. Keep it in the oven without any heat, away from drafts, overnight. The next morning the mixture solidifies and I separate the liquid or whey by using cheesecloth inserted in a colander. The yellowish liquid, whey, is collected and used to nourish ken's organic vegetables that seem to flourish with this live lacto bacilli culture. It's finally here! The 'Ekahi Ornish Reversal Program 1st-Year Anniversary Celebration is tomorrow Saturday, November 12 from 2pm to 5pm! We are thrilled that you will be joining us for our celebration of all of the alumni in recognition of their significant accomplishments.
