Finding treasures at Popo's house in the playroom of their dad's small kid time. Colin makes smoothies with his stephanotis blossom he picked as he watches it swirl in Aunty Ann's mixer.
Sophia plays another 35 year old toy, a hand held water tank game of ring toss. Les watches Andrew play with Uncle Stu's basketball water tank hand held toy of yesteryears also! Les, their dad, tells them, we didn't have iPads to play video games. Sweet fragrant gardenia filters through our home as this year is the biggest crop ever! An interesting note...ken tells me Aunty Eleanor Ching gave him 3 gardenia plants from her yard on Green Street about 50 years ago. She and cousin, Annette Lee would be happy to know there are 2 still growing in our yard, today! Ken air layered this lemon tree from the original one from his Paula Drive family home. We have a better appreciation of these plumb juicy citrus. Roasting turkey throughout the year has been something we've always done for over 50 years! Ken's garden gives us the focus on how to improve our lifestyle in trying to be more self subsistent.
Herb pasta:
whole wheat pasta gently pan fried with olive oil with homemade cilantro and basil pesto. Fresh herbs of thyme and tarragon as well as okra, Vidalia onions, and baby daikon... surrounded by a lei of young Manoa, arugula, and mustard cabbage baby greens. 7:15AM Time to "smell the roses" as I am home from a nice morning walk, before it gets too hot! ken's bush beans is everyone's favorite. Daikon and bok choy coming along nicely, too. It's taken us a while to figure out how to cook and enjoy kale but there is definite progress! Usually our plate of food always has fresh garden greens as the biggest portion of the items on it. 10:15 AM

Ken gladly recycled it by refinishing the frame and washing the fabric. It is now enjoyed by baby Colin... Here, I ask him to "give me your best smile" and this is the response! Baby's on cue...he decides to show off his toys as he sees my cell phone out to take pictures of him! Andrew at age 9, is learning the ins and outs of setting up the Olelo camera for tomorrow's shoot . Finding time to blog while Sophia practices her dance with baby Colin... Our nice rosewood dining room takes on a new twist for this new generation with Popo and baby playing "chugga chugga choo choo ..." The picture below becomes crucial as his stay at Popo's gets long and he wants his Mama...he watches her car come up the road to pass the time away! An early dinner for Andrew and Sophia while Gungie takes baby outdoors to check out flowers and herbs. Popo spots Gungie ( talking on phone to Stu) and Colin outdoors! Baby eats his corn on the cob while his sibs have the last of the ice cream cake, without him knowing! Winding down? as it cools off in the backyard. More than once a day while at Popo's, Colin plucks not only flowers but his favorite herbs..basil, rosemary, onion, mint and watercress, too.
Brown rice fried with kale and green beans. Eggplant, daikon and daikon greens stir fried in garlic black bean sauce. Garden fresh baby arugula, Manoa lettuce and other young leafy greens surround young baby bak choy steamed topped with oyster sauce. Ken harvested our veggies at 7am.
Lucy came home from walking and prepped them. We both left for tai chi practice. After running errands, got home at 1130. And, lunch ready by 1230. Mahalo to Victor for sharing his sticky rice...m-m-GOOD and his pineapple! |
